Did anybody see the article on ICTs in the Times yesterday, 5th January? TCS gets a mention as the largest user of this dubious practice. The immigration minister, Phil Woolas, famous for the Joanna Lumley/Gurkas fiasco defends ICT's as being 'good for British business!

"Tata Consultancy Services, which builds and maintains IT systems for government departments and British-based firms, said that it needed to bring in additional staff to meet an increased demand for its services and expertise."
I cannot blame TCS for this sorry state of affairs: L&G Management have a lot to answer for.
By the way I haven't seen any increased demand for TCS services from L&G yet.

Not sure of the details, but my sources say that the new contract for BTS is going to IBM (no surprise there). BUT This contract also includes taking over from TCS to include all services.
Anyone know anymore on this?

Is it true that L&G are potentially going to be bought out by Cowdry who has an interest in purchasing a british insurer ?

Computer Weekly's 'Inside Outsourcing' (website) is starting a blog by somebody, now unemployed, who 'used to work for a large UK insurance company that outsourced to a large Indian BPO'.
Might be worth a look.

This might be short notice, but this may be of interest. If you miss the broadcast it might be on i-player...
Hello,
Just a little note to let you know that 5live Investigates will be revisiting ICT visas, particularly their impact on the IT industry, this coming Sunday night. The item's likely to be on at around 21:35. If you can, please do tune in an let us know what you think. Text 85058 on the night or email our new presenter Adrian Goldberg at goldberg@bbc.co.uk
We're going to be looking at the Government's current decision to exclude ICT visas from the temporary immigration cap, and the assertion made this week by one recruiter that there was a shortage of IT skills in the UK.
Thanks.
Best Wishes,
Hannah

Hundreds of people were "removed" from TATA just a few months after they were transferred to TCS from legal and general - and it was done unlawfully with some saying that the union standing by at the time. I heard through some folks there that TCS didn't respect the law on their so-called selection process and got rid of a lot of techinically skilled UK employees to replace them with serfs from India. An absolute disgrace. p.s. get ready for the TCS brigade to post their "just asking" or "please explain" as if they don't know.

I read in the news that British managers complain they cant get skilled UK staff. What they mean is that Indian staff work cheaper. Ive read that the Tax Man knows this and gets upset. Not because a Brit is jobless but because they get less tax. So the Indians pay extra tax to make it all better. Great.

Can some of you please tell Dr Vince Cable, MP, what is going on? He is still convinced that we need to welcome large numbers of Indian IT workers here to solve a "skills shortage". When will they get the message? Never unless you tell them. Write to your MP here. www.writetothem.com/

I've sent this mail to mt local MP Gordon Henderson:
Gordon, Despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, Vince Cable still seems to believe that we have a large shortage of skilled IT workers in Britain; most estimates that I have seen point to a figure of about 50,000 of us being unemployed. Despite this, there are still more intra company transfer visas being handed out to Indian 'experts' to come to Britain, be trained up by a British IT worker who is then jettisoned by the business in favour of the Indian, who returns home with the job. Is there anything that you could do to convince Dr. Cable of the error of his ways ? Regards,
I've had the following reply:
Thanks for your email.
I have written to Vince Cable to ask for his comments. I will of course let you know his response.
Kind regards
GORDON HENDERSON MP
I'm almost wetting myself as to what the reply will be. If I get a response, it will be posted here post haste

Hi, I wrote to my MP as well but haven't heard back from him at all. Still I suppose that's the snotty Lib Dems for you.
Can't see that this will do any good they seem to think that British IT workers are non existent.

Yeah, we all know the lovel Phill is about as much use as a chocy fire guard and about as well informed as Wayne Rooney on a night out in the red light district.
